Most of us have heard the phrase that some people walk in the rain, while others just get wet! I live in the Pacific Northwest where we walk and jog in the rain…we ride bikes in the rain..and we buy all of our jackets with rain hoods attached. We even buy raincoats for our dogs. We drink a lot of coffee and we read a lot of books. We actually look forward to our overcast days after too many sunny ones.
This means that I live close to some incredible rain forests and that I am able to grow a beautiful garden. Just as our gardens need all kinds of weather…so do we. A rainy day helps us appreciate the simple things like an afternoon nap or the green sprouts coming up outside the window. Rain enhances our senses. Who hasn’t walked outdoors and actually smelled the fresh rain falling on the new spring grass? It’s the perfect time to listen and absorb.
The last time I listened to the rain it told me that less was more. Less stuff…less stress…fewer distractions…fewer commitments. It’s spring cleaning time. Why not discard one thing that you never use, every day for a week? Replace it with nature…a daily walk…putting birdseed out…bringing flowers in. See how you feel? See how little changes can make a big difference. Breathe in nature and exhale contentment.
A rainy day in early spring replenishes and freshens your spirit and soul. Find joy in the revitalization that is all around you.
Showers hold the promise of spring: and this is a promise that is always kept!
